What Students Are Saying

I loved the focus on the other person ,not self. Truly this is how to listen. The course helped me expand my existing skills and practice applying them with others in our coaching sessions. I love the simplicity of this approach and how positivity, curiosity, acceptance and acknowledgment just fall out of it naturally .

I am more aware when I am not being present to the other person and am relating from my own 'stuff', I also know to enquire whats going on for the other person when they respond emotionally rather than responding in kind .I find this allows me to get connected really quickly with the other person which is incredibly useful in the many stressful situations my patients can find themselves in.

— Liz Williamson, Dentistry

I looked at a number of courses available both locally and on-line. Having a background in science and research I was drawn to the Wellcoaches for 3 reasons; its training is evidence-based, it had a large body of research that supports its efficacy, and its partnership with the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine.

The course gave me a strong understanding of the principles of coaching psychology as well as a framework/tools to help support clients achieve their Health & Wellbeing goals. Throughout the course we had numerous opportunities to put the tools into practice.

I went on to complete all 4 levels and became a certified Health & Lifestyle Medicine Coach. I have set up my own business focused on Health & Lifestyle Medicine and offer Health Coaching as a service

— Vanita Smith, Masters of Human Nutrition, BCom/BAppSci

I am having more of a "Client-centered" approach and by using active listening skills as a coach I am allowing the client to feel that he/she is genuinely listened to and it creates more active engagement of the client(s).

Personally, I think Wellcoaches is offering the best foundational (Health & Wellness coaching) training if you are genuinely interested to learn more about practical strategies to support your client to adopt positive lasting lifestyle changes.

— Dan van der Westhuizen, PhD in Clinical Exercise Physiology

“Communication has always been very important in my work, however I feel my skills have gone to a whole new level. I am a lot more attentive and listen a lot more. I allow for silence where before I always felt I had to fill the gaps. Sometimes the quiet moments are when amazing things happen. I also keep a very open mind and don't anticipate what a client will tell me.

I have let myself relish in the unknown as I am a lot more confident that the conversation will flow, have greater depth and better outcomes if I don't have a predetermined pathway forward. I am also very happy to not give advice. I just love the growth and learning that my clients are discovering and I take joy in sharing these moments with them as well. My work now is more of shared experience, working together, and this makes me much happier in my work.”

— Susan Helmore, Speech Language Therapy

As a certified Health Coach and Personal Trainer living in regional South Australia, I have gained extensive experience in community, preventative and primary health care.

Becoming a certified Health & Wellness Coach has helped me recognise that each of us has our own unique life story and believes that often it is our own self-doubts that are a key limitation to living the life we imagine. Using evidence-based, best practice coaching approaches to assist clients in reaching their health and wellbeing goals, I am passionate about helping people to live their best life.

— Emma Young, Population Health Assistant Manager

“By consciously taking off the "expert hat", by being present, compassionate, using open-ended inquiry more and working from a partnership and facilitator approach. This helps elicit clients' true motivation, capacity to change and consolidation of their new habits. The process becomes curious and fun.”

— Helen Xie, Health & Wellness Coach

“The most meaningful thing to me about this training was seeing health professionals really connect the dots between the underlying personal and emotional drivers behind certain health behaviours and the need to connect with their "patients" on that level in order to empower them in to make meaningful change that comes from a place of genuine intrinsic motivation, rather than from a place of "should".”

— Jordhana Clark, Naturopath
